Red velvet doughnuts

Ingredients:
225g self-raising flour
125g brown sugar
15g cocoa powder
125g butter – melted and cooled
65ml milk
1 egg – lightly beaten
15ml red food colouring
Chocolate glaze
125g dark chocolate – chopped
100g butter – chopped

Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a 12-hole doughnut pan.
  2. In a large bowl combine flour, brown sugar and cocoa powder.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine melted butter milk, egg and food colouring. Whisk until just combined. Stir the mixture into the dry ingredients until combined.
  4. Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared pans (around half full). Bake for 10 minutes. Allow to cool completely.
  5. Chocolate glaze: In a heatproof bowl, combine the chocolate and butter and set over a saucepan of simmering water. Stir until melted and combined. Cool for 15 minutes. Drizzle glaze over the doughnuts.
    Allow the chocolate to stand for 15 minutes or until the chocolate glaze is set and serve.
